I had bought one box #4429\u00a0containing two Spitfires Mk.IXc and another box #4428\u00a0containing two\u00a0Spitfires Mk.IXe and started to build them simultaneously. You will find one fully finished <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">c-model<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>in this post and two nearly finished\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">e-models<\/span><\/strong>. The reason of this combination (of finished\u00a0and nearly-finished\u00a0kits) will be cleared later on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #808000; font-size: 22px; line-height: 32px;\">1\/ Comparison<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I would like to compare the\u00a0kits first, but not the <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">c<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">e<\/span><\/strong> Spitfire variants but the model kits as moldings. After opening the boxes, both kits look very similar, except from the typical &#8220;<b>C<\/b>&#8221;\u00a0and &#8220;<b>E<\/b>&#8221; wing types of course, plus rudders, then a bit different exhaust stacks and the wheels discs too. Boxing contains the normal and the shortened-wing option too. The slot for the fuselage insertion is well visible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dry-fitting the\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">e<\/span><\/strong>-kit fully satisfied me. One can put the fuselage halves\u00a0together, then put them into the wing slot &#8211; everything sits precisely. The fuselage halves are apparently not friends with the wing &#8211; \u00a0they want to jump out of the wing slot stubbornly. Thus the connecting surfaces have to be slightly adjusted &#8211; and for me it looked relatively hard to find where.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(By the way &#8211; another boxing of the\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">c<\/span>&#8211;<\/strong>kit was probed to avoid this issue but the same thing happened. The\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">c<\/span>&#8211;<\/strong>kit is simply somehow different &#8211; not so fine-tuned as <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">e<\/span><\/strong>-kit).<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #808000;\">2\/ Improvements I have made<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After checking several photographs of my freshly built Spitfire I felt dissatisfied. It was anything but Spitfire &#8211; without the typical rear view mirror and the Pitot tube.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Pitot tube<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nMaking the Spitfire Pitot tube was easy. Tiny styrene plate was cut into shape of the pylon first. The hairy styrene line was made by pulling an inch of the kit sprue above the kitchen-stove fire. First I tried to make the half-round at the end of the longer piece of the cylindrical rod and then to cut the appropriate length of it. No satisfactory result was achieved this way :-). I had to change my tactics. The Evergreen rod was sliced into dozen tiny rings and put onto some sticky tape. Then a very small drop of five-minute epoxy was dropped onto each ring. The droplets created the needed\u00a0half-round shape. The best shaped &#8220;mirrors&#8221; were chosen and finalized using sandpaper. See the picture below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/modeltalking.hobbyart.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Mirror.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6320 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/modeltalking.hobbyart.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Mirror.jpg?resize=640%2C574\" alt=\"Making the Rear Mirror \" width=\"640\" height=\"574\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The excess dried epoxy plus the base styrene slice had to be removed by delicate sanding.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally\u00a0the hairy styrene line was\u00a0attached &#8211; to simulate the mirror stand. It also makes manipulation during the painting process easier. The whole was airbrushed and the mirror stand trimmed. The final step was to glue the mirror onto the airplane canopy using tweezers and cyanoacrylate glue. They were photographed this way so you can see the difference\u00a0better.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #808000; font-size: 22px; line-height: 32px;\">3\/ Colours and Painting<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Spitfire Mk.IXc<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>The painting was made according to the instructions found within the eduard kit.\u00a0Scheme No. 3 had been chosen, i.e. Spitfire LF Mk.IXc,\u00a0MJ250, No. 601 Squadron, Italy, Summer 1944. Sea Gray and Dk. Green. I used the Alclad II Polished Aluminium ALC-105 and Aluminium ALC-101 for moving (textile covered) surfaces. I only have a black-and-white photograph of this machine\u00a0from the web and no further info regarding the lettering colour of this particular Spitfire. The first one is No. 1 scheme Spitfire Mk.IXe, PT396, flown by W\/C Jack Charles, Tangmere Wing, Tangmere AB, March 1945. The British roundels for Spit Mk.IXe (kit #4428) were slightly out of register. Decals were used anyway. For better decal setting, a glossy varnish coat (as the base) was applied first. The French machine was more weathered and dusted. The white colour in French roundels was damped down overspraying them with a Lt. Grey mist. Finally the kit also got a very thin coat of Mr. Color #69\u00a0Off White as the unifying touch.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #808000; font-size: 22px; line-height: 32px;\">6.
