The\u00a0Great Wall\u00a0Hobby kit cought my eye immediately as I saw it in the model shop. Formerly I wanted to\u00a0(and I still want to) build the Slovak “Rahm”. Being\u00a0a big fan of \u00a0night fighters – and especially the german ones from World War II – I had absolutely no doubt. This airplane is very interesting as it is, and particularly\u00a0in this version, as the Po-2 hunter, the plane is a\u00a0true rarity.<\/span><\/p>\n

To build this kit I hunted down\u00a0PE-parts from\u00a0eduard, new propellers from\u00a0Quick Boost and a stack of reference books. However, I was mostly inspired by the\u00a0reference downloaded from russian modeler blogs.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Fw<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

After studying the original kit instruction plan, it is clear you\u00a0will have to\u00a0improvize.\u00a0<\/span>Mainly the way how to mount the\u00a0“Schr\u00e4ge Musik” shooting\u00a0<\/span>gun into the plane is not clear at all.\u00a0The eduard PE-parts do not help here either.<\/p>\n

The following parts\u00a0of the kit had to be improved: cockpit interior details, engine mount and undercarriage well\u00a0details. The PE flaps from eduard\u00a0are excellent – but this is the place where one can play around\u00a0too. And of course, the kit needed to be newly riveted as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

After my thorough study, this camouflage was used:\u00a0RLM 70\/71\/65 colours with\u00a0RLM 76 mottles. While the colours used are Mr. Gunze C, the varnishes are TAMIYA and the washes plus\u00a0oils are\u00a0Pz abteilung 502. Scratches and chipping were made by\u00a0the “hairspray method ” using the\u00a0AK interactive “heavy chipping” fluid.<\/p>\n

Tha darkest side of this kit was the original decals. I do not know why such “metal plate” decals were used within this otherwise high quality model kit… \u00a0<\/span>CARTOGRAF\u00a0<\/span>crosses were used onto the lower surfaces as replacement<\/span>.<\/p>\n

This project took me a\u00a0whole year to finish and I can say I am sure going to build at least two out-of-the-box kits to take a breath.<\/p>\n
