Bf-109 F/G Rudder
Replica, Text and Photography by Maurizio Di Terlizzi
Following up on a discussion from a few years ago, there is again the possibility of purchasing a replica of the rudder of the German fighter Messerschmitt Bf 109 version F/G in 1/1 scale. The rudder was made according to the original drawings and diagrams, as in assembly (from wood)…
…also in the phase of fine fabric covering (Ceconite 102 certified canvas used).
Even the long sewing phase was carried out exactly in the way used by the Germans (with a backing fabric and a slanted seam):
The painting phase was done by spraying a coat of primer and two coats of aluminum paint to protect the glue and fabric from UV radiation…
… and the camouflage, done following the Luftwaffe day fighter scheme in RLM 74/75/76 colors:
There is also electrical wiring that allows the 3V tail light bulb to be turned on/off:
Box for monocells batteries powering the end position light:
A few additional and more detailed pictures:
A final note from the author: It is a unique opportunity to have such a decorative piece in the home and it is also suitable for museums. Without increasing the price, it is possible to add the Savoy Cross on both sides, representing one of the many examples used by the Regia Aeronautica.
